What's in a Card?
While there is no right or wrong way to make a card, this is a basic guide for new card makers. We'll start with the foundation or the main part of the card. It's what will give your card the strength to support your other parts. Keep in mind that you want to use coverstock (also called cardstock), 140 lb. watercolor paper, or something similar in weight. This will help you make elegant looking cards.

While you can stamp or embellish right on the foundation part of your card. You can further increase the look of the card by creating the stamped/collage image on a coverstock which is smaller than the foundation. Then place this stamped collaged image onto another piece of coordinating cardstock and secure both to the foundation of the card. This will give you three layers.

The card liner where you will stamp, write, or type your message is a lighter weight paper. This can be anything from quality typing paper to lightweight scrapbook paper.

The key to making your cards professionally looking is the quality of the products which you use. The better the paper, the richer the card will look. Most new card makers think they will save money by making their own cards. Sometimes that might be the case, but it's not always true. Those who make cards have the self-satisfaction which comes from creating your own work of art for a loved one. That feeling is priceless.
